Beginning on Jan. 14 of 2016 will be the FLW Series tournament on Lake Okeechobee in Florida followed by 2 week layover at a nearby lake to practice and learn a bit more about fishing Florida grass lakes. Then it's the 1st FLW Tour stop on Okeechobee out of the famous Roland Martins Marina on the West side on Feb. 4-7. Even though the bass all look big in the pictures, there are many more small bass in the lake and finding the winning pattern of big bass usually eludes most of the tournament field. The lake is 1-4 feet deep in most areas and learning what vegetation and water clarity is the key to staying up on a winning pattern. Usually punching heavy weighted plastics in wind blown hyacinth clumps on the post front days. Another of many techniques would be bed fishing for big bass or casting a moving bait (Chatterbait, spinnerbait, Skinny Dipper, or rattle trap) in scattered kissimmee grass also catching the bass moving into spawn. My plan revolves around any 3 of these that I have the most confidence in.
